Exclusive! Further dates for the V8 XM release programme
by Marc Thomas - 20 October 2005
Following discussions with a Bentley executive at the MicroStation HQ in Exton we can exclusively reveal the V8 XM roadmap as the launch date approaches.
We have been told to expect the MicroStation V8 XM Beta 3 to appear on Select Services in the next few days. The Beta 3 will be "shadowed" soon after by an Early Access 2 build of ProjectWise. Bentley says that “November will then be all about exhaustive testing, refining and proofing of the quality of the integration making sure that the release candidate in December will meet all expectations”.
So, with Beta 3 released in late October, keep November clear for testing and look forward to a Release Candidate during December. The intention of a Release Candidate is that it should be as close to the Commercial Release as possible. Provided nothing unexpected is discovered in the next two phases we should therefore expect a Commercial Release fairly early in the New Year. The tone from Bentley is upbeat so I'm expecting these estimates to be accurate.
Brace yourselves for round three, the number of issues that have been reported by Bentley staff responding to newsgroup posts, as fixed “in my current build” is legion, so we should expect significant progress in Beta 3.
At the Bentley Community (UKI) Autumn Conference 2005 Chris Bober the MicroStation Product Director will be presenting a Bentley Platform Update Keynote session that will focus entirely on V8 XM. Our Bentley source also told us to expect great things from the keynote, “Chris is the "V8 XM Edition" of MicroStation and he intends to present the same information to the Bentley Community (with a few extra goodies added) that he presented behind closed doors at the international partner event in Nice last week”.
London is the place to be on November 3rd to hear the freshest news from the man that knows, so come along and join us. See our events page for further information about this event.
