Create Region Tool
by Marc Thomas - 01 December 2009

Try out the Create Region tool, the middle tool in the Groups toolbox.

It works in a similar manner to the hatch tools. Instead of hatching an area by flood; union; intersection or difference it creates a new closed shape element using the active attributes. Very quick for tracing over existing elements.

Note the tool settings:
• Select fill type.
• Select Keep Original to create a new element whilst retaining the existing elements below, you probably need this ticked most of the time.
• If Associative Region Boundary is ticked the new element will be linked to the originals and will move with them. This also works with reference files. The proviso to this is don’t move things too far!
• Ignore or locate interior shapes and or text.

Have a play around with this one, I’m sure you will find many uses for it.
